Pan-fried tempeh with soy-ginger glaze
A simple way to bring out tempeh's nutty flavour, with a quick sticky glaze.
Pregnancy tip: Slice the tempeh thinly and fry until genuinely golden and crisp on both sides — this improves both texture and flavour significantly compared to a quick, pale fry.
Ingredients
- 200g tempeh, sliced into thin strips
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp maple syrup or honey
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- Sesame seeds and spring onion to serve
Method
- Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Fry the tempeh slices for 3-4 minutes per side until golden and crisp.
- In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, maple syrup, ginger, and garlic.
- Pour the mixture over the tempeh in the pan and cook for 1-2 minutes until sticky and glazed.
- Serve scattered with sesame seeds and sliced spring onion.
