Passionfruit

Passionfruit is safe throughout pregnancy. The seeds and pulp are both fine to eat — just wash the skin before cutting it open.

Passionfruit

Passionfruit is safe to eat freely during pregnancy, and is a good source of vitamin C, vitamin A, and fibre. The wrinkled outer skin isn't eaten, but should still be washed before cutting into the fruit, for the same reason as any fruit — to avoid transferring bacteria or soil from the outside onto the edible pulp via the knife. The soft, edible seeds scattered through the tangy pulp are entirely safe to eat and are usually eaten along with the flesh rather than removed, whether scooped straight from the shell, added to yoghurt, or blended into a drink.

What to be aware of

  • Wash the outer skin before cutting it open, even though you don't eat the skin itself.
  • The seeds are edible and don't need to be removed.
  • Safe in any normal quantity as part of a varied diet.
